How it works

Connect GitHub

Secure OAuth connection with read-only access. We scan your organization's Copilot usage data instantly.

See the data

Clear breakdown of active versus unused seats. Identify exactly which licenses require review.

License status categories

Our audit classifies each license based on usage patterns and GitHub's activity data.

Active

Used within last 7 days

Licenses showing regular engagement. No action required.

Idle

8-30 days since last activity

Recent inactivity. Monitor for continued usage.

Inactive

31-90 days without activity

Prolonged inactivity. Review with user before removal.

Ghost

Never activated or 90+ days inactive

Prime candidates for immediate license recovery.

Note: GitHub retains activity data for 90 days. Licenses showing null activity may indicate either never-activated seats or extended inactivity beyond the retention window.

Common questions

Is this secure?

We use read-only OAuth authentication. This means we cannot modify any of your GitHub data. We only access Copilot billing and usage information—never your code or repositories.

Why is this free?

GhostSeats is part of SaaSight, our comprehensive SaaS management platform. This tool demonstrates our approach to license optimization. If you find value in auditing Copilot, you may be interested in tracking usage across your entire software stack.

What if we have no unused licenses?

Excellent license management. We'll show your engagement metrics and usage patterns instead. You can also set up monitoring to receive alerts if unused licenses appear in the future.

How do you handle our data?

We cache scan results for 24 hours to enable sharing. After that period, we only retain aggregate statistics (no personal information) unless you explicitly opt into monthly monitoring.

Does this work with GitHub Enterprise?

Yes. Our audit works with both GitHub Copilot Business ($19/seat) and Enterprise ($39/seat) plans. The authentication process is identical regardless of your subscription tier.
